12 Feb Experts from Ten Countries Gather in the Capital with a Focus on the Future of Cultural Heritage

From April 16 to 18, Sofia will host the fourth edition of the large-scale international forum on immovable cultural heritage — the Open Forum “Digitalization and Innovation for Cultural Heritage.” The event will take place at the BIAD Concert Hall of the Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions (108 Georgi S. Rakovski St.).

The forum is an international platform for sharing experience, knowledge, and ideas related to the preservation and development of immovable cultural heritage. Experts from more than 10 countries will gather in Sofia to present successful models, best practices, and innovative solutions from Bulgaria and across Europe.

Among the international delegates are representatives of:

  • Europa Nostra - the leading European cultural heritage federation
  • the University of Bologna
  • EUROM – the European Observatory on Memories
  • ATRIUM - an Association and European Cultural Route
  • EuroClio – European Association of History Educators

 

Premiere: The Digital Twin of the Buzludzha Monument

A key highlight of the program is the premiere presentation of the digital twin of the Buzludzha Monument — an interactive 3D experience that will allow participants to explore the building’s current state and “jump” back in time to see what it looked like in the past. Visitors will also be able to learn more about the history and context of the site and, most importantly, choose the future they envision for the monument.

The experience will be fully accessible to the general public from any mobile device. Visitors will also be able to discover the stories of different individuals whose lives are connected to Buzludzha — from generals of the Construction Corps to volunteers involved in preserving the monument.

The forum is organized on the occasion of the World Day for Cultural Heritage (April 18), established by UNESCO. The event will present the results of the international project “Developing an Inclusive Approach to Communicating Contested Heritage,” funded by the European Union’s Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme. 

 

Registration

Participation is free, but requires prior registration. The working languages are Bulgarian and English, with simultaneous interpretation provided.
